About Wildhavens
Scott Highleyman is the principal and founder of Wildhavens.
Experience
Ten years as a grassroots conservation leader in Alaska for rainforest and marine protection and twelve years consulting for foundations and NGOs on organizational strategy, evaluations, and marine and terrestrial conservation projects internationally and in the U.S.
My combined experience in grassroots conservation and as a consultant looking at the big picture enables me to act as a bridge between worlds that don’t always understand each other – whether they are funders and NGOs, businesses and conservationists, or hunters and fishers and environmentalists.
Project Leadership
Leader for dozens of large and small projects, all brought in on time and on budget.
To tackle particularly complex projects, I put together and lead teams of experts. By custom designing these teams (rather than maintaining in-house capacity), Wildhavens delivers the most up-to-date expertise while maintaining a low overhead.
Past Clients
Over a dozen large and small foundations and NGOs including the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Pew Charitable Trusts, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the Oak Foundation, Environmental Grantmakers Association, Ducks Unlimited, National Wildlife Federation, Corporate Ethics International, the Marine Fish Conservation Network, Alaska Marine Conservation Council, and Oceana.
New Areas of Interest
I’ve become increasingly interested in how society will tackle large conservation issues like conserving our remaining original forests, slowing climate change, and protecting our oceans.
My work has grown to include new conservation tools such as the use of market campaigns to directly engage corporations, internet organizing to reach millions of Americans on conservation issues that affect them, and unexpected but very effective alliances between environmentalists, businesses, hunters and fishers, and indigenous peoples.
